That’s my local gaming sorted then Cannot recommend Incom Gaming highly enough, absolute gem of a venue tucked away in the South West with a vibrant and friendly community that's growing rapidly. Also a Heresy Age of Darkness gaming powerhouse courtesy of Tom and Stu from the Geno Five-Two podcast. Recommended.

After Calth & Tarssis

My renewed interest in grimdark, or more specifically the infinately more enjoyable period of the Horus Heresy (30K) has been monopolising on what little hobby time I've had this week. All work and no play as the saying goes, but unfortunately work I must and it's been particularly bruising fornight. Some highs but far too many lows. That being said, the weekend is here and my thought's again turn to Calth and the XIIIth Legion. That's Calth the boxed set and not specifically the events themselves. Still keeping an open mind how I want to theme my Ultramarines before locking them into a specific timeline of events. Since I last posted the excellent follow-up to The Horus Heresy: Betrayal at Calth has been released; The Burning [...]

Blast-tastic 2016

It's a somewhat dreary day so I've abandoned the man-cave in search of entertainment elsewhere, the elsewhere being the Blast-tastic Sci-Fi themed wargames show. You can follow along on Twitter #Blast-tastic2016 or on the Facebook page (assuming I can get a signal). Failing that I'll update things right here after the action. Horizon Wars Horizon Wars is a 2-10mm combined arms skirmish game by Robey Jenkins set in humanity's future. With unit profiles based more on ability and functional purpose on the battlefield it has the benefit of not being a slave to a particular miniature range, freeing up collectors to make use of existing ranges or the freedom to pick and choose infantry, vehicles, 'mecha' and aircraft from their favourite suppliers. More about [...]

Blast-Tastic 2016

Being a bit of a 6mm scale nut, well 'Epic' at least it would be remiss of me not to give a shout out to Angel Barracks who organise the annual "Blast-Tastic" Sci-Fi themed wargames show. If you happen to be in or around Bristol on October 1st it will be well worth a visit with over a dozen games hosted including In Her Majesty's Name, XCOM, HALO Ground Command, Horizon Wars, Infinity, Shattered Void, Dropzone Commander, KR-16 and more. A full list of traders can be found at the end of the linky right here on the Angel Barracks website.

Stay Frosty

I've been slacking this year on the old blogging front, there's no denying it. Interestingly it's not been down to hobby fatigue or any of the usual ailments, just simply put a lack of enthusiasm for sitting down in front of a screen on an ongoing basis. My day job involves a lot of time in front of a computer so it wouldn't be untrue to say that's had a bearing recently also. Painting and hobby wise however has been continuing at a pace, largely as a result of another much needed workshop clean out and re-organisation which always invigorates the painting gene. Salute also plays a big part and although this was only my second visit to the event I always find it inspiring. [...]

Learning Infinity – Part Two

Part two and the final post summing up the Beasts of War Infinity Boot Camp. Friday and Saturday were all about the set up, hobby and learning how Infinity works. It was also a fair bit of eating, drinking and generally kicking back with a bunch of sound fellas who are just as into pushing wee soldiers about as I am. So a pretty good weekend when you look at it like that. Sunday however got serious as the game-faces came out. There were prizes at stake...proper prizes. Fortunately this wasn't a 40K GT so when all was said and done the final two games of the weekend were really about putting into practice everything learned throughout the Saturday with the added bonus of including the TAG. [...]

Learning Infinity – Part One

As you'll have seen from my previous post I've been putting together a Yu Jing starter force for Infinity in an effort to finally get some traction learning the game. Normally the way these things work is I get a bunch of miniatures, quite often through whatever starter box the company does (Operation Icestorm in this instance) and that's about as far as it gets for a while. Which obviously isn't all that effective. This time things should hopefully be different as I de-camped from the man-cave last Friday and headed to Ireland for the Infinity Boot Camp being hosted at Beasts of War and run by Carlos (aka @Bostria) Designer for Infinity from Corvus Belli. Carlos explaining the background, features and attributes of the Yu-Jing faction starter [...]

Salute 2015 – Finale

In the previous two posts I looked at Salute through the eyes of a first-timer and focused on a selection of the Vendors and Traders that caught my eye. That's only half the story however as what Salute's also famous for is the huge number of demonstration and participation games on hand. It would be futile for me to even attempt to cover them all within the scope of my tiny blog, so I'm not even going to try. Instead I'd like to call out a few to hopefully give some idea of the breadth and variety available on the day. Many were of course laid on by the studios and vendors themselves directly as demonstrations. A few I've mentioned already such as Spartan who were showcasing [...]

Salute 2015 – Part Two

Now I'm back home and caught up on sleep it's time to press on with the rest of my Salute 2015 wrap-up. This time it's all about the vendors, manufacturers and some of the fantastic studios and games I know far less about. I mentioned in 'Part One' that this was my first ever visit to Salute, which I know seems odd considering just how many years I've been in the hobby. Nevertheless it's true. When I set off on Friday afternoon I decided I ought to have something of a plan regarding any purchasing on the day, as if left to my normal devices I'd have simply run in shouting "here, here take my money!" in a blind panic. I set myself four ground [...]
