Engine Kill

By | 2018-03-10T18:13:03+00:00 February 5th, 2018|Age of Sigmar|0 Comments

It's generally not a good idea to update the blog when tired, yet here I find myself doing exactly that at the end of what's been a hectic week. Sadly not all hobby unfortunately, work having curtailed half of the week's activity and putting an end to wednesday's stream. Despite all of that however I've made great headway on stage one of the Malign Portents painting challenge for Age of Sigmar and wrapped up all of the Plaguebearers and Plague Drones with the exception of the Herald. All in all a really good start which has left me a couple of evenings spare before taking them over to the store. Just as well really as it's looking like it's going to be another frustrating week [...]

The Cult of Paint

By | 2018-03-16T10:16:56+00:00 February 2nd, 2018|Vlka Fenryka|0 Comments

Cult of Paint is a painting tuition initiative formed in its inception by Henry Steele and Andy Wardle. Although a relatively new endeavour with 2018 their first full year event calendar, I previously had the pleasure of being taught tank and infantry painting techniques by Henry last year under the MKA Studio banner. For me last weekend's two day vehicle painting course at Incom Gaming was a chance to refresh and cement techniques previously covered, in addition to a few new tricks. I'm frequently asked whether these courses are worth investing in. I'll answer that with the images below, the first being an Alpha Legion Deimos painted by my friend who also attended. New to both airbrush painting and many of the techniques being taught [...]

Malign Portent

By | 2018-03-18T15:31:05+00:00 January 21st, 2018|Age of Sigmar|0 Comments

If you managed to catch Friday's stream, you'll have seen me wrapping up painting of the first four Death Guard from the Dark Imperium set. These have been some of the nicest miniatures by Games Workshop I've ever assembled and painted; they go together like a dream and the scope of unique detail practically makes each a character in their own right. Absolutely love them and generally speaking that goes for most of the Death Guard/Nurgle Daemon range released recently. So much so I've been tempted into painting an Age of Sigmar 'Getting Started' box by 10th Feb for a local store challenge. I've been trying to start a small warband for Age of Sigmar but have never managed to keep it on the painting table [...]

New year, new-old army

By | 2018-03-16T10:26:48+00:00 January 7th, 2018|Death Guard|0 Comments

Admittedly late to the party, well for 40K at least, the Death Guard being very much last years story but in my defence I've been trying to workout how best to make use of my original 2003 Death Guard force making them relevant again. I'm not normally one for re-working a previously painted army as never feel revisiting an old project is as productive or engaging as starting a new one and often just leads to disappointment. Quite apart from my painting approach having changed significantly during the intervening years, the miniatures are a completely different aesthetic and palette incompatible with my current range. That being said I do love a challenge and still love the direction I went with my Death Guard fourteen years [...]

It’s a trap!

By | 2018-03-16T10:30:00+00:00 January 6th, 2018|Star Wars|0 Comments

It's not all fun and games in the workshop. Sometimes there is the serious business of crushing the Rebel Alliance to deal with. Between Christmas and New Year I had a great game of Star Wars Armada with friends which gave me a chance to roll out all of the ships I have plus as many fighters as I had painted. I even speed painted Blue Squadron the night before to give the rebels some extra X-Wings. I had forgotten how much fun Armada is playing much more strategically compared with the cut and thrust of X-Wing. Things didn't pan out as hoped for the Rebel fleet who it has to be said took a bit of a bruising from the Star Destroyer "Relentless" and [...]

Snow Angels

By | 2018-03-10T18:19:06+00:00 January 5th, 2018|Blood Angels|0 Comments

It's a whole new year, so I've been wrapping up two mini projects; the last of the Blood Angels from the Dark Imperium starter box (finally!) and a solitary plastic Escher gang member from the new Necromunda set. The Escher in particular was the focus of my December steams alongside the two Blood Angel Lieutenants and a single Aggressor. Since discovering a method for the red and gold I liked the Blood Angels has rapidly become my mainstream Imperium army for 8th edition throughout the year and shows little sign of slowing down anytime soon. I shunned the 'codex' approach for the Lieutenant's and avoided the split yellow/red shoulder pads or the helmet markings seen in the studio models, opting instead to stick with the [...]

Winter (and Season Two) is coming

By | 2018-03-10T18:24:40+00:00 December 21st, 2017|News|0 Comments

On Fridays somewhat belated stream (life and all its shenanigans) I briefly talked about Season Two, for want of a better title on Twitch. The first couple of months since I started this journey/adventure/endeavour have really been about finding my feet and learning the gotchas of live streaming. Season One was always going to be about figuring things out and learning the basics before I make a decision whether or not to take it to the next stage and make it a regular part of my hobby. It was also about getting the right kit in place to launch Season Two properly and that (I think) I've largely cracked now having diverted most of the past two months hobby kitty towards new broadcast equipment and [...]

No stream this week

By | 2018-03-16T10:34:47+00:00 December 4th, 2017|News|0 Comments

Just a super quick note to say there won't be any stream this week as I've a number of other commitment clashes. I will be back next week however with my regular schedule and talking about all of the good things below... Until then, have a great week.
